Edit: I’ve changed the poster images of the first two panels to better illustrate my point. The person wearing the glasses is supposed to be producer Lau Kar Ho.
…you’re just living in it.

Anyone see a pattern here?

Let me first apologize for not publishing a post in nearly three weeks although I have been regularly updating the pages of downloads and series information. I decided to sign up for summer school and have been very busy with homework, exams, and all that good stuff. Plus work. By now, I don’t think I have any readers left but one, lol… It almost seems pointless to update.
With those old lines out of the way, have there ever been dramas more overrated, promoted, and hyped up than Heart of Greed and its sequel in recent TVB history? Probably not. I never understood why Heart of Greed was so popular. Despite the overall (I must emphasize this word) solid performances, the tone of the story was too dramatic for my taste. Even with an ensemble of A-list actors and actresses, it means nothing without a well-written plot and set of characters. Thankfully, The Gem of Life will be released later this year.

I’ve never had a chance to watch HOG, but the two posters do look similar. Now I understand why TkN doesn’t “approve” of it

By “it”, I meant MR poster

Hi Mimosa. I don’t find the two posters appealing either; there are too many people packed into a simple setting. And why are the parents in the back?
The first two panels have been edited. The comic makes more sense now, right?

If HOG was a person, it’ll be one of those individuals who thinks he’s so self-important, but deep down he knows he’s inadequate, and tries to cover it up by being pretentious. It doesn’t help that people are actually falling for the act. Oh, and it’ll also be a bad dresser with the way the scenes seemed to be so haphazardly distributed.
There are many things I hate about HOG, but the biggest issue I have with it is, yes, the lack of subtlety. I really believe the HOG writers thought their target audience were a bunch of idiots who needed to be hit with a sledgehammer of a dramatic scene in order to get the theme they were trying to convey. Truly gifted writers would know how to apply the material in a more subliminal (aka less irritating) way. Sadly, none of them were present in HOG.
Finally, thank you for satirizing HOG and upcoming MR. I relished it.

Since my name has been mentioned, I thought I’d join the conversation too.
Mimosa - to clarify, I do not like the poster for Moonlight Resonance for a very basic reason: it isn’t aesthetic. Too photoshopped (like FH II) and too crowded. ["The Silver Chamber of Sorrows" was overcrowded with cast members, but its poster was beautifully put together.]
Now, my rule of thumb: never critique a work I haven’t seen. But if MR is ANYTHING like HOG, then I know I will be deeply tortured. [I've made up my mind to view it for FungYi.] The producer insisted (at first) that the two productions aren’t anything alike (safe for cast members). But clearly, they’re trying hard to keep the original “feeling”. Poster, songs, and synopsis of MR clearly reminisce HOG. And I don’t like that one bit. [BTW, HOG's songs were better.]
But, there *is* one thing I can look forward to in MR: screentime will be more evenly distributed.
Rea - what theme was there to begin with!?!?? lol. j/k

Rea, you wouldn’t happen to have a different alias I’m aware of, right?
Your comment is hilarious! Just imagine meeting such a person in real life. I’m sure I just haven’t had the privilege - lucky for him/her.
Although I don’t care enough about HOG to hate it (takes too much energy), the series definitely lacks subtlety. Forcing myself to finish it, I expected to be rewarded at the end. That didn’t happen and I was left feeling drained from listening to arguments throughout 40 episodes.
TkN, it’s disappointing that Raymond and Tavia will once again not be paired up. Maybe I should write a fanfic just to give them a chance again…
I never believed producer Lau Kar Ho for one second when he said MR would be entirely different. There are always some similarities, but judging from the promotional videos, they aren’t minor ones.
elizabeth, thanks! That’s a bowl of bird’s nest soup in the third panel and a piece of shark fin in the fourth. Hope to see you around again.

HAHA. I so agree with heart of greed. The series tried so hard to be a classic & I can’t believe the hong kong audience fell for it. HAHA. I so laughed when some “heart of greed” fans compared it to “Golden Faith” or other classics. lols. I gave up on the series. I feel bad for others that had to endure the rest of the series. I usually agree with MetalAzNWarrior’s reviews, but I was shocked that he enjoyed it. I wonder if it’s because of Linda =/
lol. Rayolie(Raymond+Myolie) is favored by producer Tommy Leung.

hoiakoito, I was one of those unlucky viewers. I think it was quite an accomplishment that I managed to finish the series. You had more sense, obviously.
I don’t usually visit MetalAZNWarrior’s site and only know of him, so it would be inappropriate for me to make comments about his reviews.

Thanks for letting me know. But i really agree with TKN because i think MR songs isnt tht good as HOG well im not chinese but like i dont get what there singing but i still think it aint tht great but its still good,i dont really like the theme but its not poor or anything lol. Well it sound racist to me what i just said, but im just saying tht, lol, but i hope the series turn out as good as HOG or even better && yes,i really want Tavia&&Raymond together.

Elizabeth - In my opinion, you did not write a racist comment.
You were just expressing your thoughts. I think Heart of Greed is an average series AT BEST, but we all like different things. In this case, a lot of people like the same thing.

yeah,i really think Heart Of Greed was a great series & all but its a lil tiny bit dramatic but it wasnt bad or anything but i still liked it alot but i heard Moonlight Resonance was a lil more dramatic,i read it MetalAzNWarrior’s reviews but i hope it stills turn out as great as i think it will.

Haha! great cartoon! If MR does well, I’ll bet the cast will film something in time for the Lunar Chinese New Year lol. They’ll probably make “Nien Goh” - New Year Cake but I can’t see how that is gonna make them a rich family haha
Didn’t managed to finish HOG, watched like the first 5 episodes and stopped. Linda Chung irks me to no end. Tavia & Bosco is the only thing that keeps making me want to finish it later on.
On the other hand, I’m looking forward to Moonlight Resonance b/c I think Michelle Yim would give a great performance and the plot seems pretty interesting and have less stupid, comedic *rolls eyes* scenes. I also like the themesongs better, less dramatic and more pleasant to the ears.

Elizabeth - I haven’t starting watching MR, but I hope it’s less dramatic than its predecessor.
Thanks, Jadedreams! How have you been?
If HOG is any indication, MR will do very well. At least there are other big productions coming out this year.
You don’t like Linda or just her performance in HOG? Tavia did an excellent job with her limited screen time. I hope she has a larger role this time.
I agree that the MR theme songs are better. Remember all those opening piano chords of the HOG main theme? Talk about subtlety.

Actually, I find the opening sequence that follows the piano intro of MR’s theme to be somewhat discordant too, but otherwise, the new song definitely does seem to be more mellow than its predecessor. Can we expect the same from the series?

Rea, I hope so. Although I’m intrigued that Ray and Tavia play siblings and Michelle a villain in MR, I’ll wait to read what others think before diving into 40 more episodes of arguments, drama, and headaches.
elizabeth, thanks for letting me know. I’ve only skimmed through the first episode while taking screen captures, but it did look more interesting than HOG.
